Alan Van Loen who runs Aware Consultancy has been in practice as a qualified hypnotherapist for over 20 years, is an Accredited Member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and registered by the CNHC (the UK regulator for complementary healthcare) as having met the national standards for hypnotherapy; he has a BSc in psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society.

Alan is also a trainer, mainly in health education and health improvement. He has been a trainer in the NHS where he trained health professionals on courses such as ‘Helping People Change’ and ran courses in sexual health and also stress management. His stress management sessions appear in the ‘Health for Life’ and ‘Real Health for Real Lives’ series of books currently used in schools.

The approach used in this practice is based on tailoring therapy methods to the individual and what they bring to the session.

Methods used incorporate NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) techniques that utilise how you personally ‘make sense’ of the world and your experiences.

You can expect a therapy session to last about 1½ hours. Generally an initial consultation takes the maximum time.


You will spend some time discussing what you need from therapy and talking about the things you wish to deal with. This initial exploration helps to begin to work out the best method of dealing with your particular situation and to begin work with you, to help you to meet your needs. A range of methods may then be used in this session and any subsequent sessions you may have.
